She started her scientific activity in 2001, in the Laser Materials Processing Group/ICEMS at IST. In March 2011, she integrated the Group of Corrosion and Environmental Effects (GECEA)/ICEMS as a research grant holder, where she is, since November 2012, a post-doctoral research fellow.

During her PhD, she developed a process for the electrodeposition of black chromium films from ionic liquids solutions and acquired fundamental knowledge on electrochemistry while strengthening her skills in materials characterization techniques such as electron microscopy (scanning and transmission), X–ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy.

Recently, the main focus of her research has been on the development of nanostructured porous films for electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems, namely supercapacitors and hydrogen production. She is involved in the optimization of electrodeposition of nanostructured materials and the study of the influence of electrodes properties (morphology, chemical composition) in their electrochemical behavior. This activity is supported by her strong background in electrochemistry and hands-on experience in electron microscopy and electrochemical techniques.

Currently, she participates in 1 FCT national project, 1 M.ERA-Net transnational project and is involved in 3 COST actions.

She is a part of the research team that received the award Concurso Nacional de Inovação BES 2013, in the category "Industrial Processes” with the project C2C-Supercapacitors.
